Overview
At Draftline Investments, we aim to grow a solid portfolio of commercial real estate assets that provide excellent amenities to our customers and above-average returns to our investors. Our preferred investment vehicles are self-storage facilities in emerging markets: markets that illustrate strong business and social fundamentals, such as job growth, increasing average household income, and decreasing crime rates.
Commercial real estate investment has consistently demonstrated that it is a superb hedge against inflation and a recession-resistant vehicle for value creation. On a risk-adjusted basis, we believe there is no better way to protect and grow generational wealth than through cash-flowing properties. And the stability is unparalleled.
Our company adheres to a strict code of honor. Our top priority at Draftline Investments is to perform all business activities with integrity, transparency, and professionalism. We believe good tenants deserve excellent service, and great service attracts the best tenants.
Mark Ameerali CFA, CFP, Managing Principal and Chief Investment Officer
Mark Ameerali is from Vancouver, Canada. After completing an undergraduate degree in business and three years of postgraduate studies in Asia, he began to invest in US real estate following the housing market decline in 2008.
He began investing in US single-family homes and built a consulting service to facilitate purchases by Canadians looking to do the same. Mark started to syndicate capital into multi-family projects and eventually created a fund enabling Canadians to purchase multi-family homes in the US using their retirement assets.
Mark also invested in Canadian real estate, and in 2012, he founded a practice in private wealth management, raising capital for private investments in Canada and the US. In 2021, Mark and his wife decided to move to the US.
Mark has authored two books focused on personal finance and investments. He is the founder of the My Money 101 financial literacy program.
Andrew Leese, Managing Principal and Director of Acqusitions
Like so many professionals in commercial real estate, Andrew began his career in the value-add single-family house space. Andrew has been successfully renovating and reselling homes since 2014.
His first house flip fell into his lap soon after he had completed a 3-year circumnavigation of the globe on a bicycle with his little brother, Randall. They continuously traveled through thirty countries and bicycled nearly 30,000 miles for over three years. The trip began in 2009 and was self-funded with savings to raise money to help orphaned children in India. From the vast expanse of the United States to the relics of Christendom of Europe, the deserts of Central Asia to the colossal Himalayan Plateau, this expedition was an actual test of perseverance.
Before the bicycle expedition, Andrew completed a degree in computer science with minor concentrations in physics and mathematics. He grew up within a homeschooling family on Whidbey Island, one of the larger islands in the Pacific Northwest corner of Washington State.
Arlene Leese, Asset Manager

She is fluent in English, French, and, of course, Spanish.
Upon completing her master’s, she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, and worked with Hudson’s Bay Company’s Supply Chain Logistics department in digital operations management.
Hudson’s Bay Company is North America’s longest continually operating company and owner of Saks Fifth Avenue, among many other significant retail assets. There, she managed operations for two years.
